Inclement weather eLearning Day Guidelines

An inclement weather eLearning Day is used when school is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. There are two types of inclement weather days – asynchronous and synchronous. The state of Indiana allows the first three inclement weather days to be asynchronous learning. The remaining days require synchronous instruction.

ASYNCHRONOUS ELEARNING DAYS

The first three Inclement Weather eLearning Days will be asynchronous learning, meaning students will NOT be required to join a Google Meet.

Definition: Virtual lessons or paper packets that students can complete at their own pace.

Expectations:

  • Grades K-6: Paper packets will be sent home with students to be completed during the eLearning Day.
  • Grades 7-12: All assignments will be posted on Canvas by 9:00 a.m for all students.

If students complete the eLearning day assignments within 5 school days, they will be marked present. Students will be marked absent if they do not attempt to complete eLearning day assignments.

SYNCHRONOUS ELEARNING DAYS

After the 3rd Inclement Weather eLearning Day, teachers will provide live virtual instruction using Canvas, Seesaw, and/or Google Meets during the morning hours. The second half of the day will include asynchronous learning assignments.

Definition: Live, virtual instruction for all students will begin at 9:00 a.m. Google Meet links for students in grades K-2 will be shared through SeeSaw, while students in grades 3-12 will access their Google Meet link through Canvas.

Expectations:

  • Grades K-6: Synchronous instruction from 9:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
  • Grades 7-12: Synchronous instruction from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
    • In the afternoon, all students K-12 will complete asynchronous work on assigned by their teacher(s). Students in grades K-6 will have 2.5 hours of asynchronous work, while students in grades 7-12 will have 3 hours.

If students complete the eLearning day assignments within 5 school days, they will be marked present. Students will be marked absent if they do not attend the synchronous lessons and/or do not attempt to complete eLearning day assignments.
