Mrs. Allen’s sociology class embarked on an insightful field trip to Church Community Services (CCS) and Faith Mission Homeless Shelter. At CCS, the students explored various aspects of the organization, including a tour of the office, the Soup of Success classrooms, the Seed to Feed gardens, and the food pantry. During their visit to Faith Mission, they toured the facility, engaged in discussions with CEO Mike Perez about the shelter's programs, and helped serve meals to both residents and the community. It was an enriching day of learning and giving back!

✨GOOD THINGS✨
A group of kindergarten Heggerty Heroes (led by teachers Colleen Molnar and Rhonda Williams) from Concord South Side Elementary attended last night's school board meeting and invited board members Tim Yoder, Tara Towner, and Mike Malooley to join them as they practiced their skills in rhyming, fluency, segmenting words, and adding/deleting/substituting letters to make new words.
These lessons are part of the Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum that helps support students' early learning, strengthening the bridge between reading and literacy skills, and is aligned with the Science of Reading. These kindergarten students did an outstanding job modeling for our board members! #ConcordPride #WeAreConcord

Concord Community Schools is thrilled to have been awarded the Next Generation SIG grant from the Indiana Department of Education! This grant will provide our two eligible schools (Concord High School and Concord South Side Elementary) up to $300,000 per school in planning funds over the next year, and up to $3 million per school in grant funds over the following three years. The exact amount per school is still to be determined.
The funds directly impact Concord High School and Concord South Side based on their eligibility for the Next Gen program, but will indirectly impact all seven of our schools in one way or another. This grant is a huge WIN for our students and their families!
Over the next year, we will engage in a comprehensive planning process to ensure that we maximize the impact of these funds, but here are some key objectives: Improving student achievement outcomes, exploring high-quality early childhood programming, expanding college and career advising for students, and growing the educational attainment of students and graduates through meaningful work-based learning experiences, such as modern youth apprenticeships, that lead to credentials and college credit.
We are grateful for this opportunity -- and thrilled to get this work started!

At Concord Community Schools, we’re growing great readers! State reading exam results were recently released for last year’s third grade class and CCS saw 7% more students pass the IREAD-3 test! Statewide, .6% more students passed.
We had 77.8% of students pass the exam, up from 70.8% the previous year. That’s a huge increase in just one year! Congrats and job well done to our K-3 teachers, students and parent partners who are supporting this work by reading with their child at home!

The Boys and Girls Club of Elkhart County is offering an after- school program for CIS and CJHS students!

As we head back to class this week, we’re sending all of our well wishes to our incredible teaching staff who are poised to do great things with kids this year!
We are thrilled to have been able to retain a significantly higher percentage of our teachers than the state average the last three years. We are so proud to serve our community!
