Good nutrition and learning go hand in hand at Concord Community Schools.
The Concord Food Service department is a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students’ health, well being and their ability to learn. Our food service staff supports learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices.
Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. Students are offered a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet their health and nutritional needs.
Breakfast
Don’t forget about breakfast! Join us each morning, breakfast is a great way to kick off your child’s day!
Students must take at least three of the offered items at breakfast and one of the three items must be a fruit or vegetable.
Visit USDA – School Breakfast Program to learn more about the National School Breakfast Program.
Lunch
Each day, your child is offered a lunch containing the following: meat or meat alternate, grain, fruit, vegetable and of course, milk!
Out of the five food groups your student is offered, s/he must choose at least 3 food groups for his/her meal. One of the food groups must be a fruit or vegetable. Some of the menu choices may count as two food groups such as pizza, nachos, cheeseburger, or chef salad.
While the most nutritious lunch contains all of these options, we understand that sometimes students do not like some of the items we serve. To make our student customers happy, we like to give them the option to decline items they do not want to eat. If your child comes home and says s/he didn’t get enough to eat at lunch, ask if s/he is taking all of her fruit and vegetable choices.
